wish to boot QNX-RTP by default on a QNX4/QNXRTP box

Hello.

We have successfully installed QNX-RTP on a QNX-4 box, and we need
to use both environments on the same machine for a while. By
default QNX 4 is started, unless we press the ESC key when
prompted for it, in that case QNX RTP is started.

Now we would like to reconfigure it so that QNX RTP, and not QNX
4, is loaded by default on startup. Is that possible? If not, is
there a way to increase the number of seconds available to press
the ESC key for entering QNX RTP, so that we don’t have to be so
quick and watchful every time we start up?

Thanks for your attention,

Jose.

I’ve never used QNX4 so i hope i don’t fool you here. but if it’s using the same “kind” of boot up process as on NTO
there is one .boot and one .altboot file in the /
pressing esc during boot up on NTO loads .altboot, so if it is as on NTO
moving .boot to .altboot and .altboot to .boot should work

Thank you. It worked this way. The only problem (apparently) is that now, when we press ESC to enter QNX-4, it goes for
the alternative sysinit config file, which is generally used for booting up in safe mode. So we have to rewrite the
alternative (safe) sysinit file so that QNX-4 behaves as before. This way, it seems it’s no longer possible to boot in
QNX-4 in safe mode (it wasn’t with the prior situation either, so we didn’t lose anything with the change).

Jose.
