USB Mouse

Can qnx-rtp use a USB mouse?

Trey Weaver

Hi Trey,

At this time the RTP does not ship with a USB stack, however there is
one being worked on at this time and is getting close to being released.

Please be patient

I’m curious (none of my target hardware even has PCI, let alone USB), what
about support for USB mice & keyboards on systems that have BIOS support for
PS/2 emulation? IE: All the desktop machines I have have a BIOS setting you
can enable that will emulate “standard” PS/2 port mice & keyboards for DOS
or other non-USB aware OS’s. Would this still work in QNX? If so maybe it is
an option for those who need it…

Sounds like an extention of the USB keyboard support for DOS, so its
all in hardware or the BIOS?

It may work for you, but it’s a terrible solution. BIOS vendors who
implement it probably test it with DOS and Windows, but we can make it break
very easily here.

It doesn’t work very well. The real solution is for us to integrate real USB
support running in native mode into our input driver framework.

That’s one of the main reasons why we are updating our input driver
architecture.

Ok. Like I said I don’t care about it personally as all the hardware I’m
interested in using it on predates USB & PCI…
