Please help: crttrabs hangs (first boot)

Hello,

When starting ph, either by booting normally or by typing “ph” the
system
locks up. The problem occurs immediately after it crttrap displays
messages
… “-dlibS3” …
… “-dlibVESA” …
So perhaps it’s a problem with VESA? Or should I change Bios settings?

I have a RIVA 128 (Elsa Victory Erazor), NVidea-chipset (should be
supported)
This is my first install.

Greetings!
Tobias

This dirty hack worked for me:

  • Booted to text mode (F1)
  • Noted the device numbers of my video cards (pci -v)
  • removed my other video cards and VESA modes from
    /etc/system/config/graphics-traplist
(identified them using the device numbers)
  • run photon with “ph” → no lock up
  • setup graphics mode using the Photon setup
  • exited to text mode
  • commented out the entire crttrap section from /usr/bin/ph, so the
    traplist and
the newly created /etc/system/config/graphics-modes are not deleted at
    boottime
  • “reboot”

Note: The system locked when trying to install VESA for my second video
card S3 Virge.
My first video card was an Elsa Victory Erazor (Riva 128) and there is
an onboard video
controller as well (did not crash). All cards but the Elsa were disabled
in Bios.

There should at least me an option to kill crttrap when it locks or a
possibility to
disable video cards from the boot menu.

Greetings, Tobias

Just for the record this dirty hack also worked for me. Have a Voodoo 3
3ooo which was recognized first, but then crttrap was evidently
attempting to also bring up my on-board SIS530. Did as Tobias outlined
and I am happily running QNX again. Thx for sharing Tobias. Dave
