/dev/ser1 intermitant fault

Has anyone notice an intermittent fault with serial devices after applying
Patch B?

I have an Armada E500 and since installing Patch B, sometimes the serial
port doesn’t respond, I can open it but it doesn’t work. Rebooting fixes
the problem.

Instead of rebooting, have you tried to slay the driver then reload it?
When call waiting bumps my modem, I have to slay the driver and reload it
before it works properly again. There shouldn’t be much you need to
reboot in order to fix with RTP…

slaying devc-ser8250 and re-starting the driver solved the problem.

The problem now is our application will be embedded in a system that sits on
the sea-bed, we cannot have a system that sometimes works and sometimes
doesn’t !

Slaying the process and restarting will not be an option, how long will it
be before the core OS can be considered stable?

Simon…

Try doing that inside the start-up script, and when doing that, try
starting the driver in another console. You can have 4 consoles going
for example, and one of them just has the serial driver running in it. I
read somewhere that this may sometimes work.

Bests…

Miguel.

I’m running QNX RTP Patch B and get the same problem when connected to the
internet for surfing etc.

Apps like voyager do not complain, they just sit there as if all is ok?
I have noticed that the /dev/ser2 (my modem port) goes missing and the only
way so far to get it back is to reboot.

However I am new to QNX (and any other *nix for that matter!) and there
might be other things I am not considering. Its a pain though in the middle
of a download!!

Unfortunately there is no indication from the system that a fault has
occurred other than I cannot transmit anything, the device opens with no
error.

Sometimes I have to slay the device driver in order to get it working. I’ll
try modifying the start-up script, the trouble is are there any guarantees
that the driver will work after being slayed and restarted?

So far I have found quite reliably that the driver works after restarting
it.
