Problems installing QNX on a SCSI system

Hi,

I have a SCSI only system: AHA2940 with Quantum Fireball 4,3GB. I like to
use
this system exclusively with QNX. The installation routine detects the
AHA2940
correctly but no diskdrives! When I boot up the demo system from the CD, it
works.
Every other OS I tryed to install (Linux, Windows 9x/2k) has no problem with
the
drive detection. When I start the installation in verbose mode, it stops at
the drive detection
process and says: No drive for /dev/hd0.

So whats the problem here? Need Help!

Thanks
Ralf

Two possible reasons:
Your drive is not ID 0, and the adapter bios is set to boot from another
ID,
or you are using wide SCSI, this is currently not supported by the RTP
(AFAIK)

Hi, this is me again,

@Andre:

Thanks for your answers. I have checked your tips:

  1. My drive has ID 0.
  2. The old 2940 I use (no U2W or Wide only SCSI2) boots on ID 0.
    And…
  3. My problem starts earlyer: The QNX setup process does not detect the SCSI
    drive.
At the point in the setup where you have to choose your hd0 drive, it says
    something like:
“No drive for installation found. The drive must be supported by your BIOS!”

What can I do? Any tips or tricks??

Thanks & Greetins

I also have a system with one of the first 2940. I was absolutely not
able to install
the RTP on this system. My old 2940 hangs during the boot process. I
know that there
are some specials with the first 2940er. They are not running quite
well, even LINUX
sometimes has problems. I suggest purchasing a new Adapter. A symbios
for
example costs less than 100,- DM. I think this is the best way. Or take
a look on the
supported hardware side at qssl. Today I have build a new system
reserved for
the RTP (and a small LINUX partition) only.
Regards,
Andre

Symbios is nice and cheap, but it will suck under QNX (primitive driver,
which only works in ancient async mode).
