Package Installer Installation Woes

I’ve spend much of Saturday trying to install 6.1 on a new computer.
Fortunately I now have an external modem so I can see the TX/RX lights.
Often I will see that while downloading something from the WWW repository
the lights stop flashing. Although I see some kind of a kick every (I’m
guessing) minute or so, it usually doesn’t come back to life.

Then I discovered that if I am running Voyager in another window, and I
request to view a new page that will often, but not always, kick the package
manager back to life.

So, to download some of the larger archives I have to sit there and do
VOyager screen refreshes every few minutes.

I have seen this problem with package installer for a while but only
yesterday discovered the curcumvention.

What is wrong with the package installer and is QSSL fixing it?

I have seen the same effect if I try to install packages from Web using
voyager

Oops! No. This is a misunderstanding.

I am installing packages with the Package Installer from the WWW Repository.

What I am saying is that when the Package installer seams to get hung up,
doing something with Voyager seams to jump start the Package Installer.

Ok, then there seems to be an additional problem. Sometimes if I do a
download
of a great package (using Voyager), then after the package was
downloaded the
package manager did not start directly (nothing happens). But if I try
it a second time
(downloading the package), then after the transfer has completed, the
package manager
starts. Strange?!?
