PCMCIA network card

Hello,

I have ActionTec FastNet Card. It’s NE2000 compatible, it works in QNX4.25
and I would like to use it in QNX RTP.

In QNX4.25 I had to edit it’s pcmcia.cards entry, I have changed base
address to 0x320-0x33f and irq to10. (it didn’t work with default address
range 300-31f)

Now I would like to do the same in QNX QRP. Is there any way to accomplish
it?

I am attaching output of pin cis and pin co.

Thank you,

Pavol Kycina

Hi Pavol,

The docs explain how you can override the IRQ and address of
a pccard slot.

Take care!

Erick.

Hello,

First I slayed io-net, devp-pccard and enum-pccard, then I tried:
“devp-pccard -a0x320,0x320 -i0 -l10,10 -w8,8”, but according to pin
no address range was assigned to the card. See attached file pin.bad.

I suspect the problem to be in the card, it “advertizes” just 0x300-0x31f
address range, but that range is probably taken by notebook.
In QNX4.25 the same card works happily at 0x320-0x33f.
(I edited pcmcia.cards file)

Any hint?

Could you make sure that your BIOS has this memory window free?

Hello,

First I slayed io-net, devp-pccard and enum-pccard, then I tried:
“devp-pccard -a0x320,0x320 -i0 -l10,10 -w8,8”, but according to pin
no address range was assigned to the card. See attached file pin.bad.

I suspect the problem to be in the card, it “advertizes” just
0x300-0x31f
address range, but that range is probably taken by notebook.
In QNX4.25 the same card works happily at 0x320-0x33f.
(I edited pcmcia.cards file)

Any hint?

Hi Pavol,

The docs explain how you can override the IRQ and address of
a pccard slot.

Take care!

Hello,

I have ActionTec FastNet Card. It’s NE2000 compatible, it works in
QNX4.25
and I would like to use it in QNX RTP.

In QNX4.25 I had to edit it’s pcmcia.cards entry, I have changed base
address to 0x320-0x33f and irq to10. (it didn’t work with default
address
range 300-31f)

Now I would like to do the same in QNX QRP. Is there any way to
accomplish
it?

I am attaching output of pin cis and pin co.

Thank you,

Pavol Kycina

Hello,

It’s Dell notebook, and there’s nothing like caching option in the
bios.

What model Dell is this? Please also post the output from ‘pci -v’.

It’s Dell Latitude CPi D266XT. I am also attaching output of ‘pci - v’.

Thank you,

I too have a Dell Lattitude CPi D266XT and would like to get
the pcmcia cards working. There were problems under QNX4 as
well, which were resolved when Hugh provided a new driver
and advice for configuring the memory window.

The machine’s running 6.1.0 right now, and I’ve tried the
patch B pcmcia drivers with no luck.

What was the solution for Pavol? Maybe it’ll work for me.

I am out of luck with my Ethernet adapter (so far) in RTP 6.1A.
(Hugh tried his best, but the card is a beast)

What type of pcmcia cards do you have? Can you do a ‘pin con’ and
post the output?

Hi Hugh. This is exactly the same machine I was talking about in
qdn.public.qnx4, thread titled “Pcmcia.generic w/ TI PCI 1131 in
a Dell Lattitude Cpi”.

We had an email exchange to solve this for qnx4 during the latter
half of August. If you still have those old emails kicking around
they may be helpful too.

Here’s the pin and pin con output from qrtp 6.1.0 (no patch A).

=======from ‘pin’=======

Sock Func Type Flags PID Base Size IRQ
1 0 Serial C—I-±–X----- 73741 0x3e8 8 7
1 Empty ----MF---------- None
2 0 Network C—I-±–X----- 73741 0x300 32 9
2 Empty ----MF---------- None

As you can see, reasonable resources are allocated. With qrtp’s
sin being so badly broken, I’ve no other way of verifying
correct attachment of the IRQs. But a serial driver does get
automagically started for the modem in socket 1, and it winds
up being called /dev/ser3. If I ‘qtalk -m/dev/ser3’ no characters
echo; I’m wondering if the interrupts are getting through.

The network card is similarly dead. I don’t remember for sure,
but think the proper NIC address shows up in the netstat
output.

You most probably need to start devp-pccard with the -w8 option.

=======from ‘pin’=======

I don’t remember for sure,
but think the proper NIC address shows up in the netstat
output.

Hi Hugh. Sorry this took a while; for some reason your reply
didn’t show up in my newsreader until yesterday.

I just tried slaying devp-pccard and restarting manually
with ‘devp-pccard -w8’, but the result was no observable
change in behavior.

Anything else I can try? We know this works on Linux and
QNX4.

The QRTP docs speak of configuration files in the section
describing devp-pccard, but none are named, nor evident in /etc.

Sorry, but I’ve forgotten what the problem is! Could you enlighten me
please?

Thanks, Hugh.
