Inspiron 8000 - no USB

Hello,

I am attempting to use an Inspiron 8000 with Neutrino. Since the card bus
controller doesn’t work with the Neutrino driver, I was hoping to use USB
for a network adapter. However, USB doesn’t seem to work.

I tried plugging in a USB mouse and then running devu-uhci. This gave the
best results (as compared to devu-ohci). But when I plug the mouse in, I
get a message appearing on the screen that says “Timeout on control
transfer”. This message appears about every second or two until I unplug
the mouse.

I have already disabled Legacy USB support in my bios.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

– Chris

Hi Chris,

I am assuming you also start devu-mouse correct? Also how do you start
devu-uhci?

Thanks

Erick.

I didn’t bother starting devu-mouse since I was getting the messages from
the uhci driver. When I plug the mouse into my desktop Neutrino machine and
start uhci, I don’t get the messages.

I was using devu-uhci -p0 from the command line.

Thanks,

– Chris

Is there any hope of having a working card bus controller for the Inspiron
8000/8100?

What’s the holdup?

I have a new 8100 that I purchased primarily to use with QNX6.

It is a TI4451. See my postings “Re: PCMCIA problems (patch A,B,C) and 6.1”
for the all the output you need. I too bought this laptop for QNX6. I
have been working with Hugh to try to resolve the cardbus problem.
Unfortunately he needs a laptop to go any further and I can’t spare mine
right now. So Jeff, if you can spare your laptop for a few days we can get
this problem resolved.

In the mean time if we can resolve the USB issues, that will be enough for
me since I could purchase a USB network adapter.

I might be willing to send my Inspiron 8100 if they could also provide a
driver for the Nvidia GeForce 2 Go video board, and if it can be done
with a minimum of hassles in shipping (customs, etc.).

Have Hugh contact me if he’s interested.

Hi Chris,

Try starting the driver with no arguments:

devu-uhci &

Also when you do, use the usb utility, with the mouse
plugged in.

E.g. ‘usb -vvv’

That should display what devices are attached to the controller.

Please post the output of pci -vvv.

Also what version of the OS are you running? I assume it is 6.1,
but I would like to check.

Thanks

Erick.
