NVidia graphics adapter not detected?

I just installed QNX rtp 6.0, and am having video problems. Have
searched the Knowledge base, but could find no pertinent answers.

SYMPTOMS:
Photon runs in VGA mode, with only 4-bit color and 640x480 – no other
options can be selected (Standard VGA mode and driver)

I also get, at boot, a message
“Unable to open device /dev/par1 (no such file or directory)” –
not sure whether this is related or not

WHAT I HAVE TRIED:

  • Pulled the board and confirmed it is a SGS Thomson, NVidia Riva 128

  • did “pci - v”, and got: (probably overkill, but here it is)
    Class = Display (VGA)
Vendor ID - 12d2h, NVidia / SGS Thomson
    Device ID = 18h, RIVA 128 Riva 128 2D/3D GUI Accelerator
    PCI index = 0h
    Class Codes = 30000h
    Revision ID = 10h
    Bus Number = 1
    Device number = 0
    Function number = 0
    Status reg = 2b0h
    Command reg = 7h
    Header Type = oh Single-function
    BIST = 0h Built-in-self-test not supported
    Latency timer = 40h
    Cache line size = 0h
    PCI Mem Address = fd000000h 32-bit length 16777216 enabled
    PCI Mem Address = f6000000h prefetchable 32-bit length 16777216
    enabled
    Subsystem Vendor ID = 10b4h
    Subsystem ID = 1b1bh
    Max Lat = 1ns
    Min Gnt = 3ns
PCI Int Pin = INT A
    Interrupt line = 9
    Capabilities Pointer = 44h
    Capabilities ID = 2h
    Capabilities = 10h - 4000001h

  • Next, I looked in the /etc/system/enum/devices/graphics and ensured
that there is a line which matches the vendor ID and Device ID
information. It looks like it should call
    devg-iographics once for devg-tnt.so
    and then
    devg-vesabios.so

So far, everything looks like it should be working, IMHO.

Next, I exit Photon and try
crttrap trap
and I get the following 3 lines just before my system completely hangs
/usr/photon/bin/devgt-iographics -dldevg-tnt.so -I0 -d0x12d2,0x0018
Memory fault (core dumped)
/usr/photon/bin/devgt-iographics -dldevg-vesabios.so -I0
-d0x12d2,0x0018

Seems the vesabios.so driver is crashing – any ideas??

thanks in advance

bruce

Hi,

Try the latest devg-tnt.so from http://developers.qnx.com.

Joe

Hi Bruce,

Not sure if you got the other problem fixed or not…
“Unable to open device /dev/par1 (no such file or directory)”

I had the same problem a fixed it by changing the BIOS settings for my
parallel port. Mine was set to auto so I changed it to a fixed value (IRQ 5
or something). Give that a try.

Cheers,
Simon
