QNX RTP 6.1 video detection hang

(I’m new to both QNX and newsgroups, so if I make a breach of etiquette
please let me know…)

I have installed the QNX base packages from CD, made from an iso image I
downloaded (~20MB). This is a new installation; I’m not swapping video
cards. When I get to the GUI screen where QNX declares that it has detected
a new video card, it locks up. I can’t use the keyboard or mouse, although
the CAPS/SCROLL/NUM lock keys seem to work. My system specs are at the end
of this post.

The screen displays the “svga” adapter type at 1024x768 @ 60 Hz with 16-bit
color. The mouse is stuck in the corner of the screen, and nothing in the
dialog box reponds to the keyboard or mouse. I have to hit the reset button
on the case.

I have tried disabling all the hardware detection options that I could using
the QNX boot options (i.e., press spacebar when booting), but nothing seems
to help. I can get to some type of debug mode prompt, but I have absolute no
idea how to fix this from there. My card is not on the list of supported
hardware. If possible, I would just like to skip the detection process and
force QNX to use the standard svga driver.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

processor: AMD Athlon XP 1600+
motherboard: FIC AD11 w/ AMD/VIA north/south chipset
memory: 256 MB DDR RAM
video: Matrox G550 32MB AGP
sound: Sound Blaster Live! X-Gamer (CT4760)
network 1: Realtek 8139
network 2: Realtek 8139

Update:

I got the same problem with an ATI Radeon 7200 32 MB DDR, until I used the
safe mode F3 option and executed the following commands:

crttrap clear
crttrap trap
crttrap -g640x480x8

Then I loaded photon with the “ph” command and it worked. I could set higher
resolutions using the vesa driver, but the radeon driver would not sync
properly and was unusable. After a reboot I could use the radeon driver just
fine…wierd.

Hi Michael,

The Matrox G550 is not supported under 6.1.0. It will be
supported under the upcoming 6.2.0.

Regarding the Radeon, this is better supported under 6.2 as well.

Regarding your input problems, make certain that you are running
QNX 6.1.0A and get the latest devi-hirun from developers.qnx.com

Regards,

Erick.
