problems booting from compactflash

I have a embedded pc with a 96 meg compact flash module on it. the
compact flash acts just like another drive. it is setup as master on
controller 2. i have formated it under dos done dinit to it. i then
copied a known good .boot file from my test bootfloppy and rebooted
and setup my bios to boot off the compactflash… it gets as far as the
“hit esc for alternate boot” and a couple of . 's and then the floppy
goes into auto thrash mode and i get a bunch of ? 's

what gives?

I have this problem too. The loader seems to be trying to read the boot
image
from the floppy drive.

ive tried some more experiments, ive fdisk 'd the compactflash drive
as type qnz (i have no idea what the difference between qnx,qny &qnz
is ) i then did a dinit on the drive and copied the .boot file over…
this made things worse… it doesn’t even get to the message it just seeks the floppy and locks up… could
i maybe have used the wrong partition type? or do i have to format the
drive in some way after fdisk ? i could find no utility to do this so
i assumed that dinit would work. im going to try the same procedure
with the qnx and qny partition types and see if that makes any
difference. can anyone shed any light on this one? im just kinda
trying to hack my way out of this one…
