Does Patch B include...?

A boot/install floppy image that actually has the AHA2 driver on it for
Adaptec 15xx series SCSI controllers?
(Unlike the Patch A release which would recognize my SCSI controller but
bomb out with a FILE NOT FOUND.)

Next Q. Does the Patch B release not require the PC to have a PCI bus?
My laptop is a Pentium 75 with no
PCI stuff at all.

I assume that the full .iso from get.qnx.com and qnx.tucows.com has been
updated to Patch B?

If all three of the above aren’t true then there is no point in my
downloading it for the third time
and burning a CD because it still isn’t going to install on my laptop…
unless NOW someone will spill
the beans on how to make custom boot/install floppies. (You can dig
back a ways on the groups on this
server for my (and other’s) questions about this that got either no
answer at all or no useful answers.)

If not all of the SCSI drivers can be fit onto one floppy how about
including several images, each with
a subset of the drivers? Slackware Linux comes with tons of boot/install
disk images. Time spent on that
would be time saved answering lots of questions about problems with the
single boot/install disk image.

Unless its like my experience with four different Linux distros, none of
which can detect my SCSI
controller at all BUT do have the correct driver on the boot/install
disk! The QNX disk says “Oh look!
You have a SCSI controller that needs the AHA2 driver. Oops! I can’t
find the AHA2 driver on the floppy.
Too bad, so sad.” :stuck_out_tongue:

Better not: see the Patch B Release Status.

Grrr. Same thing they did with the Patch A release. They weren’t planning
to release an .iso, just the updater patch. Of course people out here wanted
a full bootable .iso plus boot/install floppy image that would work with their
previously impossible to install QNX on systems. But Patch A became a two
eged sword with the “oops” of “requiring” a PCI bus and not having a set of
boot/install floppy images covering ALL of the newly supported SCSI controllers.
“Sure your system can run QNX now, you just have to get it installed
then hack
here to stop it looking for PCI (which stops it from booting…) and hack
here to setup the proper SCSI driver.” Its like a bank, they’ll loan you all
the money you need if you don’t need it! LOL

A risky answer: the ‘QNX Boot Process’ article from the
Developer Article Series, for example, did spill some beans on this
subject. A boot image may be transfered to a floppy with dinit. Of
course, you need a working installation first…

I can also use RAWRITE in a DOS window. Big deal, I first must have a disk
image that will recognize my SCSI controller AND has the driver. :stuck_out_tongue:
I have no idea what filesystem is used on that disk. I had QNX RTP Patch A
on my desktop (windows install) and QNX could not mount the boot/install
disk.

SO! If or when someone coughs up with how to make a boot/install disk
that won’t look for PCI (and sets up the installed system that way too)
and has the AHA2 SCSI driver on it, and the disk will work with a Patch A
CD made from the .iso, THEN I’ll temproarily install QNX on my desktop
again soley for the purpose of making that boot/install disk just so I
can get QNX on my LAPTOP.

Instructions to “do this and that” won’t do. Write them with EXACT STEP
BY STEP instructions. I do a helpdesk (helldesk) job at an ISP and
know how to deal with people who may normally be quite bright and
intelligent but when dealing with THE COMPLETELY UNKOWN they need their
hand held every step of the way. I can’t assume they know anything about
setting up Windows or Mac OS to connect to the internet.

You can quite safely assume I know zilch about arcane linux/unix/QNX stuff
even though I’ve used/worked on/built computers since 1983 starting with
DOS 2.1, Windows 3.0, System 7.
