*.ifs files are made with the “mkifs” utility. See /boot/build for example
build files as well as the helpviewer documentation: “Building Embeded
Systems”.

*.qfs files are QNX4 filesystem files. Create a file the size of the volume
you want to have and use the “dinit” utility to initialize it. Then use
“mount” to mount the filesystem. From there you can copy files into it.

Hi Daryl.

could you do me a walkthrough on this please.

i want say a 640meg Hardfile located at /fs/hd0-dos-3/RTP/Hardfile01.qfs
and mounted on RTP as /hardfiles/hardfile1

the mount could be anything, perhaps people want to seperate all
their different apps in to sections /hardfiles/apps, /hardfiles/gfx,
/hardfiles/web, /hardfiles/rebol, /hardfiles/E ,/hardfiles/C++
i`m sure the readers get the idea, and each hardfile can reside
on any attached harddrives weather local or networked , very useful
when and if a CDRW UDF read/write filesytem gets made for IDE/SCSI writers.

ideally id like to zip these hardfiles up and have the mount command able to mount them as read/write or even better, a mount that could create them (hardfile.qfs.zip) on the fly AND have them grow dynamicly as you add files/apps to them, and that mount would have a format something like this mount hardfile ?` would show the current uncompressed size
of all files in there AND the real size of the zip (so as not to grow
it beyond say a CDR/CDRW UDF (when/if that gets made) CD.

but i guess this for a possible future time.

ps,dont worry if i dont answer for a long time as my current net use
is rather sparse, im only finding time to poll at weekends atm,
ill be reading inn.qnx and phx as i get time, later my friend
and great work on the private projects .
