How does QNX's DVD license ?

Hi,

I have known some facts from knowledge base following as:

“” The DVD Player is not currently available because we have a number of
licensing issues to resolve. Once we have the licenses in place
we will make the DVD player available as a value pack;
fees will apply as QSS has to pay third party royalties.
We hope to have it ready for Q1/2001 "

Does anyone know the news about dvd player or mpeg driver at now ?

How does QNX’s development and processing for DVD license ?

I am looking forward to playing the DVD on RTP.

Thanks in advance…

It’s not looking good. Apprently the licensing issue is
rather complexe and costly. I guess if you are a big OEM
you can work out a deal, for every day user it appears
we can forget about a software solution.

Maybe a hardware solution may appear someday.
hardware solution are simpler since the license has already
been paid by the chip maker.

Thanks in advance…

Or for personal use couldn’t someone just use XPhoton and some
linux X-Windows DVD player? (If there is such a thing yet.)
