New Phinx beta for RTP 6.0 Posted

Before downloading Phinx, make sure you have the Patch C release
of the QNX RTP 6.0.0 loaded onto your system. Then follow these
instructions:

  1. Start the Package Manager
  2. Choose “Add Repository”
  3. Enter the correct URL: http://betas.qnx.com/phinx
  4. Install the software!!

There is no username or password for Phinx

Note: You’ll have to agree to a click-through beta agreement to install
the software.

Release Notes

"The PhinX (Photon in X) Remote User Interface (RUI) for
the X Window system lets you run your Photon environment
as an application on the X Window System."

Simply put, you can display your Photon desktop in
an X window.

Changes from QNX4 version.

This version of phinx uses phrelay and the relay protocol
to connect to or start a Photon session. Just as phditto
and phindows do. This lets phinx utilize phrelay's remote
connection, caching and compression abilities. It also
allows phinx on Neutrino to connect to a remote Photon
session. For example
$ phinx -T qnxhost -display Xserver:0
will start a Photon session on 'qnxhost' and use 'Xserver'
for display and input. (qnxhost may be QNX4 or Neutrino)

The commandline options for phinx have changed, and it no
longer needs to be started with the phx script.
(see the helpviewer documentation)

The color model has changed. phinx will no longer (by default)
install its own colormap on PseudoColor X displays. It will
attempt to use the XA_RGB_DEFAULT map. If you cannot run
your X server in >8 bit mode (ie. TrueColor) and the
XA_RGB_DEFAULT mapping is not sufficient, the '-B' option
to phinx will attempt to install/use the XA_RGB_BEST_MAP.

It was available for a while, but I don’t think for free.

It is a Win32 application, not free. It works with either QNX4 or RTP.

downloaded it OK, but before I got to play with it, 6.1 came out

attempting to download now - pkg-installer thinks it needs

photon_core_patchC
xphoton_core_patchA

Should beta X products have a synchronous X msg option
Or was that already done in alpha ?

Hi,

I have QNX6.0.0 and I tried using the package manager on the phinx
repository. After I press “Install”, I get the following messages:

" Photon in X " cannot be installed, it requires the installation of
packages you have not selected or must be found in another repository.

The package manager can try to find these packages. This process may take a
while; the package manager may attempt to contact other repositories online
to find the required packages.

Then, I pressed “Find All”, and let it search for quite some time but did
not get any results.

I’m really interested to make this work. If anyone has any suggestions, I
am willing to try them.

Thx!
Alain Achkar
