QNX supports Thunder K7 (S2462) Motherboard ???????????

Here is the link for the dual Athlon motherboard. Each motherboard is
around $600 in price, but it is fully packed and of high quality.
http://www.tyan.com/products/html/Thunderk7.html

  1. Can QNX supports Thunder K7 (S2462) Motherboard ?

  2. Which version of QNX ? QNX4 does not support it, right ?

  3. Can QNX support AMD-760 MP chipset ?

  4. I checked the www.qnx.com, it looks like QNX does not support 3Com 3C920
    Network card, right ?

  5. How can I disable the on board Graphics Card ? Do you I need buy a ATI
    Rage/
Radeon card , and plug it in a PCI slot ?

Please helpppppppppppp
Thanks.

  1. Can QNX supports Thunder K7 (S2462) Motherboard ?

In theory it should!

  1. Which version of QNX ? QNX4 does not support it, right ?

No QNX4 doesn’t support SMP.

  1. Can QNX support AMD-760 MP chipset ?

OS doesn’t really care about the chipset. If the board is compliant
with Intel (sigh) SMP spec it should work. Now since NT/LINUX works
out of the boxes on this MB I guess QNX will work as well.

  1. I checked the > www.qnx.com> , it looks like QNX does not support 3Com

  2. How can I disable the on board Graphics Card ?

In the BIOS usually.

Do you I need buy a ATI Rage/ Radeon card , and plug it in a PCI slot ?

The onboard video should work

Please helpppppppppppp
Thanks.

Thanks, Mario,

But how can know for sure about the question, before we can buy the MB ?

It sounds to me like you would be the first one to ever try it

Dear Mr. Charest,

I found that you discussed a similar problem with Amit Margalit, it was a
SMP system with 2 Pentium III Xeons. Did he fixed the problem in the end ?
And also you have experience with a 4 Pentium II Xeon system, then could you
please tell me if QNX 6 support “Thunder i860 (S2603) Motherboard” ??
http://www.tyan.com/products/html/thunderi860.html
Can the QNX RTP be run on this board ?

Thanks

Dear Mr. Charest,

Mario will be fine

Sorry I don’t even remember about that

My experience was with NTO 2.1. So far I’ve heard QNX 6.1 seems to have
problem on SMP (QNX 6 is OK).

The 4 Pentium machine I worked on was from DELL. I have no idea
who made the motherboard, probably Tyan

I don’t know. As you have noticed QNX does not keep a list of supported
SMP motherboard. That means your only chance is if somebody already
tried it.

As far as I know QNX tried 4 processors on one type of motheboard
(don’t know which one).

As you can see you are pretty much on your own. In theory the
info to look for is if the board is Intel SMP compatible
(I don’t recall the exact name for that standard). I think
you need compilance with version 1.2 at minimum.
All the board I’ve looked at comply with this (I haven’t
checked Tyan AMD board _

I’v heard people have had success with Abit VP6 but
considering your requirement that’s a low end dual mb

  • Mario

Thanks

Does anybody think there will be problems running the dual athlon board
under qnx 4.0, if we just don’t choose to use the second processor? It
sounds like it might be slightly risky, is it possible to get the board
running with at least one processor?

Thanks

With QNX4 you can’t choose you have no choice. QNX4.x and
QNX6.0 (single CPU kernel), Win98 all works fine on all SMP board I’v seen.

Personnaly I feel the risk is very very minimal.

Thanks
