fs-nfs2 - potentially recoverable i/o error

Hi,
I’m using fs-nfs2 to mount a remote filesystem from an NT
server. I mount it doing the following command:
/usr/sbin/fs-nfs2 server:dir /mnt/server

(I know I can also do fs-nfs2; mount -Tnfs server:dir /mnt/server)

I can cd into the directory just fine for a while, but it seems when
I use qcc on a source directory and after somewhere in the linking
or compiling step, I get a whole bunch of errors saying “potentially
recoverable i/o error” or afterwards, if I ls/pwd,etc I get a cannot
retrieve current directory error. For some reason, the mount point
dissappears from the mount list, and I have to remount the system
with quite a few sideeffects (ie: still get same errors accessing system
include directories, etc). I have to reboot to clear up the problems.

Anyone experience this problem? I have to check with our server
guys and see that its not the NFS service’s problem, but I can mount
the NFS drive from Windows just fine.

Thanks,

Mike

I would use fs-cifs. Works pretty well.

yes fs-cifs works pretty well - I use it with samba under Linux (my
fileserver) - but after a while
of inactivity I just do not see the samba-dirs any more - see my
previous post on fs-cifs - I have to reinitiate it …

Yes, I noticed your thread, but I don’t know what it is.
With Windows NT server, I don’t have this problem
But if it is due to inactivity, you could just have some background process
or cron initiate some dummy activity from time to time.

Thanks for the replies.
I was talking to our sysadmins, and they said that we’re running a third-party
NFS server called SuperNFS? Guess we’ve tried a few different services and
this one seemed the most stable. I’ll give fs-cifs a try and see if that solves the
problem.

Thanks again,

Mike

Hi,

we are using a QNX4 as our NFS server and got the same fault. It happens when we create a file line by line using echo and printf within shell scripts. After writing the last line it takes about six seconds until we can see the file with its correct size using ls.

Since we do not develop under QNX6 yet, it is not a problem (but it might be in the future).
