Any idea why slay and ps in a photon terminal would just freeze and not
return or do the slay? The system still works and I can start other
terminals, but I had to hard close the terminals on which I started slay and
ps. Weird!
Ok, even weirder. The mouse works fine. I can start new terminals. I can
‘ls’ but when I do a ps or slay or any system type command, they just don’t
return. Now shutdown has hung also. I have no clue why this has
happened
I didnt change anything. (Really)
TIA,
Jim
As a followup, it basically looked like any system level command would
hang. I could run programs, terminals, etc. as long as it wasn’t system
related. I don’t think I have ever seen anything like this. I even su’ed
in as root and tried to slay, ps, etc. with no luck.

When I use the name_*, I functions I become responsible for replying to
three message types from sin. If I don’t reply then sin hangs, if I reply
with ENOSYS, then all is well- sin continues. As yet I haven’t looked at the
message types to see what the requests are. When I have some spare time
… Just put a ‘default:’ in your switch statement and then reply.
Do you have a process using name_* functions ?
Andy.

Hmmm? No I don’t have any name_…() functions in my code. AIR, the
command would work but not exit. For instance if I did a ps it would list
the processes then hang and not exit.
If it happens again, is there something I can do to check the state of the
system?

Have a high priority shell running, to run your ps/pidin/sin .

On Unix, I am limited only by my knowledge.
