mouse driver problems

Greetings,

I have two different QNX-6.1 boxes here that are connected to
Aten MasterView Plus 8-port KVM switch. When I bring up Photon
on either of these boxes, I can see that any movement of the
mouse puts a huge load on the CPU. System monitor shows that
CPU is busy for few second after I move mouse by few inches.
Both systems become essentially unusable after I start Photon.

One box has got P2-400MHz CPU, 512 MB of RAM, “rage” video
driver and 1280x1024x16 display configuration.

The other box is P2-333MHz, 128MB of RAM, and “rage” driver
as well, in the same configuration.

The mouse is the simple PS/2 Microsoft mouse.

Here is output of ‘uname -a’:

QNX unix-1 6.1.0 2001/08/10-15:17:25edt x86pc x86

All the other [non-qnx-6.1] boxes connected to that KVM
switch work just fine. There is system monitor in QNX-4.25,
but my feeling is that this problem doesn’t happen when I
boot either of these boxes with QNX-4.25.

Could anybody please provide me with any idea of what
could possibly cause this problem.

regards, Andray

Hi Andray,

Make sure that you take out the ‘pointer cam’ out of your shelf,
that should reduce the load on the CPU by quite a bit.

Erick.

[AndrayK 2]. Thanks for your help, Erick. Unfortunately, the problem
didn’t go away after I removed PointerCam from the Shelf. My gut
feeling is that there is something wrong with the mouse driver
which causes Photon to consume entire CPU bandwidth whenever
I slightly move the mouse.

Hi Andray,

What happens if you turn off the hardware cursor in the grpahics
config util?

E.
