Getting a "double" cursor on embedded build

I have a strange problem with my terminal on 6.1 embedded system.

The problem is that during boot-up when the various utils and scripts
execute, the screen has a “double” cursor - like this:

output from something during boot__

, where __ is the double flashing cursor.

Furthermore when I get the shell after the boot, the cursor is then on
single, but it displays one position to the right of where the cursor really
is, which makes really annoying when editing a file.

For instance if you are typing a command there is a space between the
flashing cursor and where you are typing:

#typing-a-com _

Any ideas?

What’s the platform?
And the videocard? pci -vvv?

Smells whacky PCI bridge with whacky VGA-ish card with endian mismatch
but I’m not an embedded guru; beware.
(I don’t think standard VGAs can doublewidth hardware cursor)

The platform is QNX 6.1 x86 and the graphics adapter is a Savage4 graphics
chip based card (Diamond Stealth III S540 I believe).
