I can’t seem to reproduce your problem here. Could you please post the
steps you take to create the problem and also the output from ‘uname -a’
please?
Regards,
Dave B.

Launch pv from ksh. On RTP I installed it as a shelf button where it
also fails.
On SH4, launch it from a ksh.
See attached uname outputs.

Make sure you have the proper permissions set on the file you are trying
to open.

This is not a file-permissions problem; I can cksum the image file from
the same shell. The problem is pv is looking for the file in the root
dir “/fname” and can’t find it there.

I was able to get a similar error message when I try to open a file that
is not a valid bitmap image. Try running pv without any arguments and
then try opening different files on the system. Make sure that they are
valid bitmap images.

Dave B.

Hmmm, Then there are two problems:
The file I’m trying to open is (my background)
/usr/share/backdrops/1280x1024/orange.jpg
What does pv expect from the environment vars, etc., that might cause it
to mistake orange.jpg?
