Keyboard Repeat Speed - A USB issue or Vesa driver problem

I have another question, this one related to keyboard speed.

On my Dell PC I am using a USB keyboard (no PS connections). I also am using evanh’s experimental Vesa driver (a VAST improvement over plain Vesa) as it is also my only video option other than VGA.

What I am noticing is that the keyboard repeat speed is VERY VERY slow. If you hold down a key it spits out a repeat at a rate of about 2 per second (making editing almost impossible). This compared to about 10-12 a second on a normal QNX box (PS2 keyboard and i810 driver).

So what I want to know is if the slowdown is a result of using a USB keyboard or the Vesa driver.

I changed the options to devi-hid to change the keyboard rate/delay from 150,500 to 100,100 but that had no effect on the repeat speed.

If I just type in a console window I can easily type 10 characters a second so it’s not a refresh problem either.

Also if I telnet into the box remotely, the telnet session can generate a 10-12 character repeat rate per second.

So I’m stumped esp since I looked everywhere for a keyboard repeat rate and was not able to find one.

TIA,

Tim
