Problem with wd in Photon

Hi:
I’ve just had to rebuild my QNX4/Photon development disk from backups after
a disk crash. Everything is working except for “wd”. If I attempt to launch
“wd” from a pterm window in Photon, I get a “unable to open debugger
console” message. I have plenty of instances specified for Dev, Dev.con and
Dev.pty and “wd” works fine in text mode. This happened to me a few years
ago and at that time I figured out how to solve the problem, but for the
life of me, I can’t remember (and didn’t document) the trick.

Does anyone know what I need to do here?

Thanks
Lionel

When you run wd in a terminal that’s not a QNX4 console, it spawns a
program called “qnxterm”. If it detects Photon, this program execs into
“/usr/photon/bin/psh”, which in turn execs into “/usr/photon/bin/pterm”.
Do all those pieces exist on your system? If you run qnxterm from a
pterm, does it open another pterm window?

Two suggestions.

First, wd is a QNX4 utility. Your better off asking in the
QNX4.devtools conference.

But, second, Are you running Dev.pty?
Or, do you have enough spare physudo ttys?
(You’ll need at least one spare for wd.)

Wojtek:

Thanks for the quick and accurate response. My problem was that, somewhere
along the line, my Photon had got installed under /qnx4/photon as opposed to
/usr/photon. Therefore my “psh” and “pterm” were both under /qnx4/photon/bin
and not under /usr/photon/bin. Creating the latter directory and copying
those executables to it permitted qnxterm to open a pterm and “wd” to
operate properly.

Thanks very much

Lionel

Thanks for the response. Please see my response to Wojtek as to the reason
why I was having problems.

PS - I had meant to post the original message under qdn.public.qnx4.photon -
I was wondering why it was taking a long time to show up there

I’m glad your problem was solved.

FYI. /usr/photon, etc. was replaced with /qnx4/photon in newer
systems/newer versions of photon and other QNX software. All you
probibly needed to do was to symlink the one to the other, rather
than have two copies on disk. But now that it’s working, let it be.
