how do I make a fullscreen application in Photon?
like a screensaver, or a program that’s supposed to
cover all of the screen …

This would be better posted in the photon group - all I
can suggest is RTFM! ;v)

Going fullscreen usually means you don’t want widget library, because it
will slow you down for little beneft. Create a region matching screen
size, sensitive and opaque to draw events and then draw right there
using low level Ph/Pg functions  You’ll have to invent something to
draw various gadgets though, like dialogs and buttons.

That’t what I can think of right away, Photon guys may have better
suggestions.

Actually, I beg to differ.

I have developed two major systems that used extensivly the Photon widget
library. But I didn’t want the application to look “windozy”. So all of
the program were full screen. I.E. No window frame, no Title bar, no min,
max or close buttons, etc. Many program, including a few menu programs.
They were just all full screen. It makes for a much more professional
looking package, I think.

Even when I am developing I run all of my terminal windows full screen. I
wish I could get rid of the window frame, etc. I don’t need it. For that
matter I find it offensive that some programs “require” you to use a mouse.
I can type. I want keystrokes to do everything that I need to do. But then
that’s just me. And I’m a pain in the A**!

Don’t run pwm? (Anyway, that’s how it used to be under 1.14)
Of course, then you will have to manage the windows yourself.
Try “slay pwm” from a pterm sometime.
You can always start it up again, just be sure mouse cursor
is over the pterm, and run pwm&.

PS Don’t you just hate the way some other GUIs force their dialogues
in front of you when they think you need to pay attention.
Like the stupid Win95 dialer window, once connected, it pushes its
way to the front. I’ve disconnected by “accident” more than once
because of it…

I love the one where it looks like it’s up and running, so you go to
do something with the start menu, and it steals focus just as you’re
about to do what it is you were trying to do.

oh man, this is one of my buttons. I’m typing away in word when all of
sudden, Outlook decides that I must decide now whether or not to archive
mail messages! Or I push a window to the background in IE, and it decides
10 times in the next 5 seconds to bring itself back to the front.

I’ve always hated that with Windows apps. I always prevent an application
from just giving itself focus. If it wants to pop up a warning somewhere
that’s fine as long as it does not steal focus.

Morons even do it when you play full screen games. Bloody instant
messenger happily switches video mode and says ‘xxx is online’ when
you’re in the middle of fighting enemies …

I had a neat one last night…

I heard a snippet of Moonlight Sonata on a commercial, so I pulled up the
MIDI file I have of it and gave it a listen.

Windows Media Player has taken over my MIDI file types, but it was working,
so I leaned back, closed my eyes and was getting lost in a very beautiful
piece of music.

All of a sudden, about halfway through… <BINNNNNGGGG!!!> … an awful
discordant noise, and there is this dialog telling me there is an upgrade I
need and I should go and get it.

It just wrecked the whole mood for me…

I ran into that the other night. I was about to snipe somebody hard and
‘whoop’ there I
was back on the desktop…dooh!!! Now my AIM is on my laptop and not my
game
machine…
