Slinger, ds and web browsers

Hi,

I’m thinking about using slinger and ds to create a web based interface for
a headless blackbox target and I’m a little concerned about compatibility.
If I use this approach, will I only be able to use Voyager as the browser,
or could I use Netscape (or gasp, MSIE)? Or do I need to just bite the
bullet and start learning cgi? Does anyone know of any examples that I can
start with?

I’m not sure what ds is, but if you put out html, people should be able
to browse it with any web browser they choose to use. slinger isn’t
in any way particularly focussed on Voyager – we don’t use any private
html extensions or anything in there.

ds is a shared memory data server that can be used with slinger.

I’m not sure what ds is,

David, ds is the data server for use with slinger, written and
shipped by some company named QSSL

So can an html page with ds hooks in it be used by a browser other than
voyager?

sure…
you can run it with just about any browser… i have not seen it not work
from any of my test connections using ie/netscape/etc.

as a side note, slinger is a great server for its size. but if you get stuck
with limits on its functionality there
are many many other servers out there that are easily ported to qnx rtp.
i brought over the wn server and compiled it with no mods. boa/apache/etc…
are also very useful.

Yes, of course. I haven’t got any shipping product using slinger, but
I have played with it, and I used MSIE for testing.

Ah… never been my specialty. DS has always been data segment
to me, which didn’t seem quite right here.
