Atomic Clock App

Perhaps this is covered in the ‘rdate’ app, but are there any apps out
there for QNX where, with a click of a button, it updates the OS and
hardware clock to a known atomic clock server? Thanks.

–Charles

If you download ntp for QNX there is a simpile utility
ntpdate which will grab the date and time from a none
server. There is a hierarchy of servers and generally
you should go to a secondary or teriery server. I use
cuckoo.nevada.edu.

Once your system time is set, you can use “rtc” to set
your local hardware clock.

Is that QNX 4.25 or RTP? I have been using it on my
4.25 system for a while but I haven’t been able to get it to
work on RTP.

QDN only shows 3 hits for ‘ntp’ and they all are for 4.25.

I downloaded the xntp and tried to compile the ntpdate but
got lots of errors under RTP…:frowning:

Thanks.

I was thinking of QNX 4, however it should port fairly easily.

Except for those of us lacking porting skills  My C/++ is
rusty-worn-through-with-holes at best.

I was hoping someone had already done this…

Lee,

Send me an email with your real return address and I’ll see if I can
do this in the next day or so.

Mitchell

Lee,

Ok, I downloaded the latest version of NTP and I can say
that it is not adjusted for NTO, however I was able to get
ntpdate to compile and it appears to work ok. You, or anyone
else can download it from:

ftp://schoenbrun.com/pub/ntpdate_nto.pax.F

You might want to look around at http://www.ntp.org for
a proper URL to grab time from.

Thanks. I grabbed it and after using QNX 4.25 to extract it from
the *.F file (RTP doesn’t seem to have a /etc/install file) I copied
it over to my RTP machine and it seems to be working fine.

One more nice utility to have down…many more to go…

Thanks again.

Sorry, RTP does have “melt” and “pax” with which you can:

melt <ntpdate.pax.F | pax -rv

Yeah it does. I’m not on my RTP machine right now, but I know it’s

there. Perhaps it came in another package or in an update?

–Charles

Greetings,

Does it update the hardware clock? If so, how do you tell if the hardware
clock is UTC?
