I have used (and even paid for) phirc. It is a fine piece of software, stable
and professional.

I heard it is statically linked?

could it use shared libs, to slim it down a bit?

Hi,

Hi,

I always link my apps statically that’s why PhIRC/PhICQ/PhFTP/PhAster are
statically linked.

One reason is to be sure that they behave the same way when you change
photon version,
in example PhIRC 6.0 works fine on 6.1 beside a little menu bar problem, but
I can tell
you that I’ve a lot of problems with PhIRC compiled for 6.1 because of
photon weirdness
that is why I can’t release any 6.1 version of these apps.

The other reason is that the only real persons who need shared linked
binaries are people who want
to spare memory, most of the time professional running embeded systems where
memory
is an issue, and since these apps have to be paid for professional use they
will have to contact me
to get these tight binaries.

Regards.
