Has anyone tried to port the VNC client application to QNX RTP ?
VNC is a GNU software that would allow (the client that is) someone to open
a graphic session (the desktop) of a Windows machine inside a QNX window.

Hello Marc,
I’ve seen it on sourceforget.net. However it runs as an X application not
as a native Photon application. I remember reading that performance
was pretty bad.
There are other options Marc.

Hello Marc,
Take a look in `qdn.public.porting´. There are some threads discussing
VNC.
Regards,
Dave B.

Hi Mario,
I tried VNC myself from one MS-Windows machine to another and it worked
pretty well. Furthermore, it’s free so it makes it easier to setup a demo
for the poeple at work and even try it for a little while before deciding on
a technology.
Third, citric stuff is quite expensive…
I know that VNC is has some X-Windows support, I thought that I could be
recompiled and run under QNX RTP using the X in Photon emulation that is
available…
But thanks for the input, it’s appreciated.

- Get the Citrix stuff.
- Install Terminal Server under Windows and there are software
available
to provide access via brower. I haven’t seen this myself though.“Marc Lupien” <> malupien@hotmail.com> > wrote in message

Did you have a look to the OpenQNX page
http://sourceforge.net/projects/openqnx/ ?
There you can download Frank Liu’s VNC port.
Jutta
Thanks a lot for the tip…

Just for clarification,
VNC as an X application, performance is good.
If you couple it with Photon, performance will be bad.
(see my other post couple of months ago in qdn.* for the benchmark data).
This is probably because Photon graphics driver doesn’t have the
same level of hardware acceralation support as X server.
By the way, both X server and VNC can be downloaded from sourceforge:

My understanding is that VNC uses the X emulator under
Photon hence the slow speed.

there are three ways to run VNC client under RTP:
If you want fast speed, option 1 is your choice. If you want to
tiny/embedded GUI, you should go 2 or 3.

Try my native photon port from http://nexwarecorp.com under the “support”
section.
