Phindows screen is black.

Hello,

I have system, unfortunately overseas, that will not start a phindows sessions properly.
We have a basic installation script that installs basic configuration files for all of
our applications and logins. This basic configuration works on all of our other
installations.

My problem is this: when we login to the machine via Phindows ( or phditto ), phrelay
starts ok and responds, but the screen goes black and nothing else happens. We are
using the “c:\usr\photon\bin\phindows.exe -txx.xx.xx.xx -Smenu -Uuser:pswd” in the
Windows shortcut.

We normally set some environment variables and start a photon session via “ph” in the
…profile.

Why would the screen be black? Is it waiting for a login to start?

Hi Kevin!

Since nobody replied, I’d like to give you a hint (we’ve been trapped by
this):

Are you using Photon 1.14A? The ‘phrelay’ of that version always starts
with a large
timeout in the beginning (10 seconds), which is definitly too short for
‘phindows.exe’.

We asked for a new ‘phrelay’ and everything was fine again.

The phditto was more ‘tolerant’ and continued after that 10s pause …

HTH,

Karsten.

Hey Karsten!

No we are actually using the phrelay that came with Photon 1.12. We
have not upgraded that software
to work with later versions.

I will upgrade to a later version of phrelay, maybe you are on to
something…

Thanks,

Kevin

Hello?

Using a user interface wrapper utility, I spawn phditto with the
following cmd line parms:

phditto -m/dev/ser1 -w1024 -h768 -Uusert:pwd -Smenu.

for local phindows sessions we use the following:

phindows.exe -t x.x.x.x -Smenu -Uusert:pwd

the /etc/config/phrelay.1 is as follows:

menu % /olm/host/bin/menu

the /home/usert/.profile is as follows:

export MY_STUFF=

export PHWMOPTS=-fWS
export PHPDM_DISABLE=1

ph

This setup is the same as all of our other sites that we log in to
the exact same way.

/etc/inetd.conf and /etc/services are setup as in the docs.

We are using QNX 4.24 and Photon 1.12. (No plans to upgrade)

TIA

I saw balck screen a while ago and it appeared to tied to the env being to
large. Try eliminating a few environment variable and see if that helps.
