Need port help from QNX 2.21 to NTO!

message unavailable

Hi All,

I am starting the search for help on porting our app. from QNX 2.21 to NTO.
I need to gather data from contractors as well as companies that specialize
in doing this kind of work. If you could please email me at
REMOVEgeorge_blaine@fmc.com (remove the REMOVE) with any information that
might help, I would greatly appreciated it.

Thanks, George… (SteinDSI)

There is a guide about migrating from QNX 4 to Neutrino 2.1, and I think
there’s also a guide for migrating from QNX 2 to QNX 4 (before my time here,
I’m afraid). These two combined might help you.

George, we recently ported our applications from Qnx2 to Qnx4, but we have
no experience in NTO.

QNX did supply a guide to port Qnx2.1 to Qnx 4.x, QNX Migration Guide, and
several tools including mig24 to migrate C modules.
We made heavy use of it during our port from Qnx2.21 to Qnx4.2.

We also used the resources of DataKinetics, http://www.dkl.com/
and were very pleased with the results.
They have a white paper on migrating Qnx2 to Qnx4, a tool to migrate, and
they also provide consulting services.
You may want to check with them as they may also have expertise in NTO.

Thank you both for the information. We are also looking at hiring, on a
contract basis, individuals who can help with the port.

Thanks, George… (SteinDSI)

We are doing the same type of project QNX2 to NTO2. We started the conversion
from QNX2 to QNX4. Stopped that with the release of NTO2. We have converted
QNX4 to NTO2 (that which we converted already) and directly from QNX2 to NTO2.
The QNX2 to NTO2 is easier in several ways. It just depends on what your
application does. We have a lot of timer function. These are much easier to
handle in NTO than QNX4 and seemingly closer to QNX2’s implementation (at least
how you think about them) then QNX4.

There are good migration tools from several sources. We made a decision here
NOT to use the mig.h. Therefore we have actually converted the code. Our app
has a 10+ year history. Therefore, it is expected that this app will continue
to run for several years to come. We decided that using the mig.h approach
would and does make the short term work easier. The maintenance gets harder
with each new update though.

We have been developing in QNX since 1981. That’s right 19 years.

If you would like to send me some description of the project I will try to be
more specific about how we are doing specific things.

I would also be willing to discuss some contract work.
