communication with other OS

Hello group,

what’s the fastest way to transfer data (up to 5 MB per process)
between different PCs with different OS in both directions?

There is one PC running in QNX 2.21 - The other one is a NT machine.
Therte is no possibility to use TCP/IP between these systems because
there is an incompatible NT network topology. :frowning:

First I thought to use a LINUX machine as bridge between NT and QNX
2.21, but found no possibility to network between LINUX and QNX 2.21
(Arcnet and Corman) :frowning:

Can I use instead of this a machine with the new, free RTP as bridge
between NT and QNX 2.21?

Can RTP work with 2 network card (TCP/IP and QNX-arcnet)?

Can RTP read/write from/to QNX 2.21 network?

If everything fails, may I connect NT and QNX 2.21 via serial ports?
Which speeds are possible?

Thanks for your attention

SWD (in Germany) currently has a TCP/IP stack that supports Ethernet cards
for QNX2

There are no ArcNet drivers for RtP yet, and even if there were, you would
need have a stack to understand QNX2 ArcNet protocol - not sure you will
ever see that.

Can RTP read/write from/to QNX 2.21 network?

Not at this time, and probably (although not definitely) never

Yes, you could use serial - up to about 19.2K I think
I am not sure what protocol(s) you would use, though. Probably ZMODEM or
similar

You could also use a QNX4 machine as a bridge. It has the ability to talk
to QNX2 over arcnet (using qtalk and qcp), and can do Ethernet TCP/IP

Please note that this is NOT a QSSL response! They may make their own
response, of course!

Check out the knowledge base for ideas go to
http://qdn.qnx.com/support/bok/index.html
and search on “qnx2 qnx4”

Some usefull QNX4/QNX2 solutions are:

It is extremely unlikely that you will get even close to 5MB per
process on QNX 2.21 using existing support. You might try to
write your own 100Mbit Ethernet driver, but I don’t know what
you would use under NT.

First I thought to use a LINUX machine as bridge between NT and QNX

There is/was a raw packet interface for 2.21, but that will get you
at most the Arcnet limit, About 200K/sec.

Can I use instead of this a machine with the new, free RTP as bridge

I don’t see how that would help.

The fastest I’ve heard of is about 500Kbaud.
