QNX on a Laptop

So far I have succeded running QNX2 (2.21atp) on quite modern laptops by
disabling the cache of the CPU using the BIOS, installing the QNX2 OS on a
partition on the hard disk and then enabling the cache again. Another
limitation is to have an integrated floppy drive (asking QNX2 to boot using
an USB drive would be a little extreme)

It had worked on several laptops over the years all the way to a Toshiba
4300 Satellite Pro (Pentium 3 - 700MHz) which I am currently using. I have
three disk partitions, one with QNX2, one with QNX4 and one with Windows98.

I need to change my laptop to a more powerful system, I have tried an IBM
Thinkpad A31 (Pentium 4 - 1.9GHz) with no success; problem is that the IBM
BIOS doesn’t lets you remove the CPU cache.

Is anyone out there running QNX2 on a modern laptop? What laptop model are
you using?

Regards

Gabriel

Gabriel,
The unfortunate thing is that for us who would like to customize
laptops we are restricted in this respect. Buy a new laptop with Windows,
or else. Anyway, Dell laptops and computers have an option for “CPU
Information” and changing the speed from “Normal” to “Compatible” which
will allow you to run QNX (but try Linux instead… )
