Is there a way to permanently change the MAC address using the
devn-speedo driver w/ the 82559ER?
I can override the address using the mac option, but I want to modify
the actual values stored in the EEPROM.
Thanks.

One is not supposed to change the mac address that stored in the EEPROM for
the very reason that MAC addresses are purchased by the manufacturers to
avoid the duplication of mac addresses.Although you are allowed in software
to use pseudo mac addresses
Hope it helps

That’s not always the case. The 82559ER chip is designed for use in OEM
applications. It does not come from w/ a MAC address assigned. Part
of our manufacturing / production process is to assign a unique 3 byte
serial number in conjuction with our 3-byte IEEE-assigned OUI
(organizationally unique identifier).
