IBM T23 Thinkpad video drivers

I attempted to install QNX in a separate partition on a thinkpad t23 and it
hangs when starting photon.
Are there any other drivers that may work? spoon@scubadiving.com

Hello.

I know it was a peculiar case that occurred on my laptop,
however hope this post would be helpful for you.

I attempted to install QNX in a separate partition on a thinkpad t23 and it
hangs when starting photon.

Did it hang when starting photon in the installation process?
If so, something else might cause it.

In the case on my laptop(Panasonic, CF-S21J5),
it hanged up while setting resolution, the last step of installation process.
At first, I suspected the video driver like you,
however eventually it was caused by PCMCIA driver(devp-pccard).

You may want to boot your box in safe mode with no photon.

Press a space key while booting and choose one from the menu.

If it works in text mode, the video driver or photon stuff may be the cause.
but if it doesn’t, devp-pccard may be…

On my laptop, this problem comes to be after 6.2.
Before 6.2, it worked with no such problem.

Are there any other drivers that may work?

I don’t know SuperSavage IXC is actually supported,
but usually the VESA driver should work and it is detected automatically.

Cheers.

Hi Jay,

What version of the OS are you using?
If you are using 6.2 can you run the grafxscript.rtp file located under
/etc/system/support and send us the generated output.
If you are using 6.1 can you run the attached script and send us the output.

Regards,

Joe

Hi Jay,

We looked at the graphics info. The graphics chipset in the laptop is the

various resolutions/color depths with devg-svga.so and/or devg-vesabios.so ?

Hi Jay,

Edit /etc/system/config/graphics-modes, and put the line with
the desired color depth and resolution at the top of the file and start
Photon.

For example to try the svga driver at 1024x768, 16-bit color copy the
following line to the top of the file:

io-graphics -g1024x768x16 -dldevg-svga.so -I0 -d0x5333,0x8c2e;

When trying these settings, it looks like my system is hanging. The mouse
is in the middle of the screen and not moving and pressing various keys does
not cause a change. Is there a key sequence that the system should react

the whole system is frozen…

under
/etc/system/config, there is a graphics_traplist that appears to show
the
vendor and device type (5333,8c2e) and attempts to load the devg-svga.so
driver. I am guessing this is run against the
/etc/system/enum/devices/graphics file and it does not find a match…
When
I run the io-graphics command, it fails with a signal 11. How do I load
the
svga driver with my specific parameters… Thank you for your help!

Hi Jay,

Graphics drivers are located in /lib/dll.
The enumerator scripts which startup drivers on bootup are located in
/etc/system/enum/devices

Joe

i am sure this has been covered many times, so I appologize… but I
have
grep’d several locations looking for where the video drivers are
loaded
and
could not find them… this is an x86 system, where are the video
drivers
loaded?

Hi Jay,

We looked at the graphics info. The graphics chipset in the laptop
is
the
S3 Savage IX, which is not supported. Have you tried
various resolutions/color depths with devg-svga.so and/or
devg-vesabios.so
?

Regards,

Joe

Hi Jay,

What version of the OS are you using?
If you are using 6.2 can you run the grafxscript.rtp file
located
under
/etc/system/support and send us the generated output.
If you are using 6.1 can you run the attached script and
send
us
the
output.

Joe

I attempted to install QNX in a separate partition on a
thinkpad
t23
and
it
hangs when starting photon.
Are there any other drivers that may work?

Hi Jay,

If you press “Ctrl-Alt-Shift-Backspace” your photon session should end.

Joe

When trying these settings, it looks like my system is hanging. The mouse
is in the middle of the screen and not moving and pressing various keys
does
not cause a change. Is there a key sequence that the system should react
to? I am trying to determine if the problem is the mouse is not working
or
the whole system is frozen…

Hi Jay,

Edit /etc/system/config/graphics-modes, and put the line with
the desired color depth and resolution at the top of the file and start
Photon.

For example to try the svga driver at 1024x768, 16-bit color copy the
following line to the top of the file:

io-graphics -g1024x768x16 -dldevg-svga.so -I0 -d0x5333,0x8c2e;

I went to 6.2 and it is all working… I started with the VGA driver and
then used the VESA driver to get 1024x768, 16bit color.
