i have qnx 4.25 and sybase SQL Anywhere 5.5.05 in a virtual machine, when i run dbinit -p4096 the shell show database engine not running. Ihave not any idea about that… 
Most services in QNX are provided by resource managers, a fancy name for a program running the background. No doubt you need to start the Sybase manager. You might try their online users-guide at:

I couldn’t find much QNX related info but I didn’t look thoroughly.
