Supported Monitors

Hello everybody,

We are about to buy HW for project which involves a couple of QNX based
stations. Since we don’t have any experience with this OS, we would
like to know if there if the Sony CPE E500 monitor
(http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/products/displays/soho/cpde500.html) will
be supported, provided it is connected through a supported video
adapter.

Already checked the qnx page, and it mentions nothing about monitor
support. Would any VGA monitor do? Will the monitor I got in mind work?

Never gad any problem with any CRT VGA Monitor

Sorry Sam but all of Microsoft OS support Monitor detection.
That way you can’t set a resolution that is not supported.

For example if I boot at 1280x1024 on one monitor then
reboot with an old monitor that only support 800x600 it
will boot at 800x600…

If QRTP would work like that would be great, cause everytime
I reinstall QRTP on my second machine, I have to not forget
about editing the trap file, since QRTP default to 1024x768,
and my old monitor can’t handle that.

Actually any person that has a monitor that does not support
1024x768 will have to become an expert at editing trap file.
And the worst is you can’t read the doc since you won’t
see a thing

That’s because there is no such thing as monitor support, under any of
the o/s I’ve used anyhow. The monitor is attached to the video card, its
the cards job to support the monitor, if it does you’ll be fine.

Before you get too excited about MicroSoft, let me
tell you a cute little story. I setup my system
with 2 Voodoo cards. A 17inch main monitor, and
a secondary 15 inch. The main monitor was set to
1280x1024, and the 2nd at 1024x768.

So one day I need to use the 2nd monitor, so
I disconnected it. Then I made the mistake of
rebooting Win98. The main monitor came up
in 640x480 and worst, it was not the main
monitor. There was no start button nor
any Icons.

I tried rebooting with the 2nd monitor
re-attached, but to no avail. It took
me over an hour of futzing to get it
working again.

I’d rather live with QNX’s limitations
any day.

Hmm, I’m losing news messages, I saw Mitchels reply, but not the
original.

Sure Mario, it can detect it sometimes, but have you ever had
an old (or new) monitor that wasn’t detected and wouldn’t work?
You just have to look up the frequency and enter it in. I’ve never
had a monitor not supported by any o/s, if the video card is
supported.

My 10 years old monitor (Commodore 1950 for the amigafan…)
is not detect but works fine

Wow this has gotten out of control  I was just describing
that detection of monitor is possible and that some OS use it
and that it can be beneficial. That’s all. Please don’t
put word in my mouth that I suggested that this is a must
have feature and that it solves all the world problem or that
MS made a perfect job at implementing it…
