aha2940U2W problem

Hi All!

My story.

I read http://www.qnx.com/products/prodrelease.html

QNX 4.25D

QNX 4.25D has arrived with enhanced flash, SCSI, and audio support. The
release features a new Fsys.diskonchip driver that supports the
DiskOnChip 2000, DiskOnChip DIMM, and DiskOnChip Millennium series of
solid-state flash disks from M-Systems. Also included is a new
Fsys.aha8scsi driver that supports any PCI card using the Adaptec
AIC-7891 Common Hardware Interface Module (CHIM).

and buy 2 servers with aha2940U2W (7890 chip)

Currently i am in trouble.
Fsys.aha8scsi from patchD which i get from upd.qnx.com
( ALPHA version dated June 1999 !!! ) does not see this controller at all.

Did someone get success with this controller?

Thanks.

We have the same problem here. I’m actually hoping my next project is delayed or I’m in big trouble not having any product to deliver. QNX better get there act together quickly with SCSI support.

Hi Mario,

Yes, there are other vendors, but . . . .

Most companies that are developing a product are doing so to sell it to
someone else.

There are two very different classifications here. Group #1 wants to
deliver the cheapest piece of crap they can and get paid for it and never
want to hear about it again. The rest of us want to sell quality products
(that’s why we use QNX) with internal brand name recognition. Adaptec is
the name everyone recognizes in SCSI.

I understand that, but I guess you want to sell something instead of
nothing at all… Right now QSSL, for whatever reason, can’t deliver
adaptec driver. I’m sure they must have good reason for it. They’re
smart enough to know that create problem to some of their customers;;;

Hence one must look at other alternative. If waiting isn’t one,
then another solution is to find another part.

Changing to different hardware results in otherwise identical systems requiring different build images so a customer with multiple systems does not have interchangable parts and now must stock two different types of spares and keep track of which goes where. This is harder than you might imagine in a large manufactring environment running 24/7 with different shifts of technicans.
