Bootup Times ... how long????

Can anyone tell me how long it takes some of the RTOS’s to boot up, like

Hard Hat Linux and QNX??

does anyone know of any sites on the web comparing bootup times on
different RTOS??

Derek

QNX4 is quite fast, QRTP as installed by default is slow
because it autodetect the IDE controller and HD. Don’t
know about Linux.

That being said with QNX4 most of the delay come
from the BIOS boot process and HD startup time.
Once All this is complete and the BIOS starts to load QNX4
you can be up and running inside the GUI in 5 secs.

Mario, just a quick question. Under QNX 4.25, do you know how to remove

things like the wait for alternate boot, etc. in order to speed boot
time? While these features are good for development, they are useless
for deployed products.

Thanks for any info you can provide

I don’t know of any official way to do this, but in the passed I
had to disassemble the boot code. It is only one sector, so it
is not an impossible job. Once you see what is being done, it
should not be very difficult to modify the code yourself. You
might even be able to NOP a few instructions.

There is an entry in QDN Knowledge Base which describes how to eliminate
some delays
(i.e. how to patch bootloader). Try to search for “delays”.
