Ultra DMA - ATA/66

I am running an x86 port of the latest release. I installed the
release with no problems until the reboot. it states that it can’t
find the root device, and does not boot. I am using a Highpoint-Tech
HPT366 ATA/66 controller built into an Abit BE6 motherboard, both of
my harddrives live on the ATA/66 controller & my cd drives live on
both IDE channels. Other than moving my disks to the IDE controller on
my board, is there any type of workaround for this?

Yes, but it’s a bit complicated.

First move the HD back on the IDE controller.
Then once it boots, run the command pci and note
the irq and io address of the HTP controler.

Then you have to modify the image and manualy
specify the address and irq. You can’t use the two HPT controler
at the same time and it won’t use DMA.

Do you need more details?

I think I may try something first. I have an old 1.7 GB HDD laying
around, that I may try. I am going to slave the cd-rom drive from the
primary IDE channel and put that hdd in the master position, but then
again i may have to try slaving it. I would be willing to try what you
have in mind also, it’ll give something to play with this weekend.

yes please.

Thank You

“Surely you’re joking sir?”
“No, I’m not joking, and don’t call me Shirley!”

Yes please more details…thx
