DVD Player under RTP

Has anyone had success using it? The option for the DVD player is disabled
in the Media Player menu.

I read on the support website that you need a voodoo card to play dvd’s…
This I find hard to believe.
Also, in the beta of neutrino there was a dll called dvdplayer.so which is
not present in the rtp, anyone
know anything about it?

It’s been disable because of licensing issue. QSSL has to be very
carefull about these issue. They have applied for the license
and when they get approved it should become available. How
it will made available I don’t know.

The DVD support isnt included in this public QNX RtP distribution. This is due to some legal troubles. QSSLs lawyers are working on it,
and it should only be a matter of time before this is resolved.

BTW it works great and the player is a finished product. Stay tuned.

Beleive it. At this moment features requires for dvd have not been
implement/release for other cards.

Actually, here is the real scoop. Right now the DVD player requires a
video card and driver that supports Direct Overlay. There are a number
of cards. I use the Voodoo 3 and Rage 128 to develop on, but QA has
tested on many others. The MPEG I/II players first try and grab
the Direct Overlay, but if it is taken (by the dvdplayer for example),
then it uses Offscreen Context to display. This means the only bottle necks
are CPU and Video Ram. I have had many open at once but sync falls
off when you max the CPU. MANY low end cards have no overlay support
but I think they all have Offscreen Context. I will make sure I add
offscreen context fallback to the dvdplayer before public availability, but
performance issue will surface as I have to convert to RGB to use
the Offscreen Context. With Direct Overlay I can send YUV to the card.
MUCH FASTER.

P.S. dvdplayer and dvdplayer.so are missing for legal reason temporarily.

That isn’t true. I have it working just fine with a ATI Rage driver.
It is only Quake that doesn’t work with anything but the Voodoo card.
