I attempted to “install” QRTP onto an existing Win98SE DELL optiplex 5100
(Pentium 100) system, and when i select the Config.sys Menu entry to start
QNX it reports:
The file “E:\PROGRA~1\QNX\BOOT\LOADQNX.SYS” is missing or corrupted
(or some equivalent, as i’m not sitting at the system right now).
I tried moving the loader to E:\QNX\LOADQNX.SYS thinking some winDOS pathing
issue was playing here to no avail.
The Boot Drive is actually C:, but i don’t have enough space to install
QNX there.
I’m wondering if anyone has any clues on this? Some guesses i have:
- This ancient Dell system is doing some funky IDE addressing
mode that comes into play during early boot phase. - The first time i attempted to install, i switched virtual desktops
during the install to check on something and as usual freakin’ Windos
hung in the Recycler cleanup. I manually removed all the QNX partial
install (the InstallShield DeInstaller control file didn’t exist so
i couldn’t perform the “uninstal”). I also manually reconfig’d the
CONFIG.SYS to normal. However, upon a re-installation attempt the
QRTP install detected that i’d tried to install already to E: somehow
(nothing in the Registry or any SYSEDIT files, so i’m not sure what
it used to figure that out). Anyway, after that i was able to IS
“uninstal”, and re-install w/o any apparent incident, but there could
still be some wonkiness laying around that caused the LOADQNX image to
really be corrupted.
Thanks for any input.

FWIW, so far i have this installed onto an NEC Versa 2650 (P150) laptop
with a C&T 65550B vidchip in 800x600x16 (wahoo), but it doesn’t want
to jive with the ESS1688 audio chip, which doesn’t appear to be supported.
I also couldn’t get it fully working with a PCMCIA DLink 10Mbit NE2000
clone, but i didn’t try real hard.
