phplay doesnt start.

Hello.

I just downloaded the 25MB qnxrtp.exe and successfully installed it on
my system.

But i can´t run the mediaPlayer. Not from the desktop and not from the
terminal. After starting phplay some memory gets lost but nothing
happens.

Voyager and VP works fine.

I have an Pentium200 without MMX and a MatroxMelennium GFX-board,
SoundBlaster16 ISA.

Thanks for help.

Are you saying, phplay does not even pop up the window when
you start it? If so, what do you see on the command line when
it dies.

Yes. Some Memory gets lost - but no gui appears.

If so, what do you see on the command line when
it dies.

Nothing too. I start it from Commandline to see if ther is an error
message, but nothing.

But the Curser doesn´t come back, so i beleve the Program hangs
somewhere.

Could you please post your complete hardware configuration. Just devices for
now.
Can you play audio with the command line utilities in /usr/bin. There should
be command line audiocd, mpegaudio, and soundfile players. Do the shelf
plugins for volume and audiocd work? Does the mixer work?

Are you root? I’m trying to rule out permissions problems for the
mpregistry (did you edit it any maybe its corrupt). mpsettings file
under .ph. Do you see it . Are there permissions. Can you play
anything with audio. Doom, Quake,… phplay make some audio calls
on startup. If you start with the -u option, only one phplay will play
at a time. Any new phplays started with -u will see a mount
point and send a message to the old phplay telling it what file to play.

Any of these ringing a bell?

I’ll read this tomorrow.
Thanks,
Jim

Hi,

Could you please post your complete hardware configuration. Just devices for
now.

IntelPentium200 wihout MMX, GigabyteBoard with TX-Chipset,
Creative Soundblaster16 PnP 1.0.10 (ISA), Tekram390SCSI (not
recognised), MatroxMillenniumPCI

Can you play audio with the command line utilities in /usr/bin. There should
be command line audiocd, mpegaudio, and soundfile players. Do the shelf
plugins for volume and audiocd work? Does the mixer work?

No, my Soundcard is recognised by Mixer as Sound Blaster 16 - CTL1745,
but i cant play audio.

I tryed:
/usr/bin/plaympegaudio-noph op play /fs/hd0-dos/…mp3

the output is:
Ang in main.c file = /fs…
Loaded DLL 0x0804e6e8 ´mpegaudio-pic-so´
MvInit() succeeded

  • (here i have to press ControlC to continue)

Are you root?

Sorry, i am new to a UNIX like OS. What do i need to do to be root?

I’m trying to rule out permissions problems for the
mpregistry (did you edit it any maybe its corrupt).

No, i havn´t edited anything so far.

mpsettings file
under .ph. Do you see it . Are there permissions.

Yes, the file mpsettings is there, premissions: rw-rw-rw-

I have started phplay with the -u option from different shells but its
all the same. There are no command line outputs, it just hangs.

thank you,

kadi (karl.bamler@uni-essen.de)

I bet the problem is the ISA SB16 card. I think there is usage info on the
driver.
type “use deva-sb” and see what comes out. If the info does not help
post on QDN a question on how to get you SB 16 PNP ISA card working.
I know there are a few tricks.
Good luck
Jim

It appears that some 16 bit audio cards are simply not supported !
I bet the Sound Blaster 16 vibraX DMA 1/3 is one of them.

I will spend more time with other OS if I want to listen the radio …
