SDL on RTP

Greetings,

I noticed that some attempts to port SDL ( Simple DirectMedia Layer ) to RTP
were made recently. Is anyone activelly working on this?

Yes, Patrick Trainor is almost done. It will be posted to the public site
in a week or two. It would be sooner but patrick has mid-terms.
He worked at QNX as a summer student this year and
is just finishing up. We had the X version up very quickly,
but this will be a very fast native RTP version. We are
using Maelstrom for the test app and after the first version
gets put up public will target XMPS and SMPEG as the
next app.

All is done except for the Joystick support. This will take a little
longer after SMPEG. I want to see the AVI/DivX player for SDL
work.

Jim,

That is great news. The number of native games and media applications that
SDL will make available will certainly make RTP that much more attractive to
users and developers. Please let us know when SDL is posted. You may also
want to drop the SDL folks a note to let them know a port is in progress.

Greetings,

I have problems running MPEG movie files in the media player. Actually, I
cannot run any MPEG files in the media player.

I searched the knowledge base and I noticed the cause was a problem with the
sound card. It does not appear that I have any problem with the sound card.
I can play WAV and MP3 files without any difficulties. Also, I have no RAM
issues ‘pidin in’ reports 168 MB/192 MB available.

When I try to run the any MPEG I get a fairly large (perhaps 800x600)
rectangular blue window appearing for a perhaps one or two seconds. The
windows disappears and the dialog box saying the plug-in terminated
unexpectedly is displayed.

I would be happy to provide any information that would help with debugging.
