Oh such are the woes of the world …

So let me just walk through the steps:

  1. Downloaded the repository tar.gz file
    http://staff.qnx.com/~thomasf/abiword/ → AbiWord link
    or directly
    http://staff.qnx.com/~thomasf/abiword/abiword-rep.tgz

  2. Un-tar the repository tar into a convenient location
    % tar -zxvf abiword-rep.tgz
    or
    % gunzip abiword-rep.tgz; tar -xvf abiword-rep.tar

This will create a mini repository for abiword itself
since there wasn’t a way to just point the pkg-installer
at a single qpm (tar.gz) file. You should now have a
directory called ‘repository’ where-ever you unpacked
this to.

  1. Start the package installer
    % pkg-installer

Add the repository location that you just added as a
new repository in the pkg-installer
File → Add Repository

Fill in the location (and a name if you feel so inclined):
file:///path/to/unpacked/repository

Click Done

  1. You should now see this new repository show up in your
listing of repositories. Double click to enter this
    new repository.

  2. If all goes well you should be able to select
Public Software → Editors → AbiSuite

And press install to have it whirr a little, install
the software and BOOM! You now have AbiWord.

If you could let me know where things went wrong for
you then I’d be better able to help.

Misc AbiWord Caveats:

There is a bug with the launcher item, for a reason
I have not yet discerned it won’t launch the shell
script (well ksh to run the shell script) from the
Launch menu. That will be fixed for the next
iteration I hope (my bad). Launching AbiWord from
the command line works fine (AbiWord is just a
shell script that launches AbiWord_s with the
right environment).

There is a bug with the photon font server where
certain fonts don’t map properly … should be
fixed in the next patch.

There is another bug with local font metrics and
the calls I’m using to extent text that occasionally
make it slow as molasses. This is being investigated
and will hopefully also be fixed soon.

There will be another release of the Photon version
nearing the end of this month. New features include
native cut & paste, better focus handling, better
document import, tab and list dialogs (I hope!).

I appreciate any comments you have either directly or
through Bugzilla @ www.abiword.com

Thomas

Thanks again Thomas, I already tryed all of that, but whenever I try to
start AbiWord, I get the message “Could not find library libstdc++.so.2.10”

It is likely that I have done somthing wrong, cause I’m a typical USER, not
even a poweruser, just a former Windows user, trying to learn somthing new.

I think I have done pretty good so far, with all the help from people in
this newsgroup.

Previously I tryed to run a Linux dist (redhat / mandrake), but as soon as I
had a question, there was no newsgroup who would help a complete newbie, so
I gave it up pretty soon.

In QNXRtP I have managed to get everything up and running (exept my lame
Lexmark 5700 printer, who doesn’t behave under windows anyway, and I really
dont care that much)

I’m hoping to learn enough to be able to help people some day myself, and
that way return something to this newsgroup.

Aha … my mistake. There should have been a dependancy on the
C++ library (which should be removed in the next release). In
any case you will have to install the Neutrino → GNU C++ 2.10
package as well.

This is definitely something that would be appreciated
by a wide variety of people. RTP is a new platform and
learning curve for a lot of people.

Thanks for persevering,

Thomas
