SB128 and SB live!

Hello!!!

I’ve got problems with sb-live under QNX 4.25. While arecord and aplay
from ALSA run correctly with sb16, with sb-live arecord doesn’t work.
It hangs. When I try to read from pcm00 it hangs too. I use deva-sb
for sb16 and deva-sblive for sb-live. Any suggestions?
And another question. Has anybody installed sound blaster 128 under
QNX. Did it work? I’m going to buy one, and am not sure if it will be
working properly under QNX 4.25.

Thanks for your help!

How is the mixer configured?
It may be that you don’t have your recording source selected properly
and your Input Gain turned up.
Also, which input connector are you trying to record from?
Do you have the LiveDrive!, are you pluging into it?
If you are trying to record from CD, are you connected using the
digital or analog or both cables to your CD drive?

You can get the code from
ftp://quics.qnx.com/usr/free/qnx4/multimedia/ALSA2/
if you want to play around with it.

And another question. Has anybody installed sound blaster 128 under

It should work fine. The driver to use is deva-audiopci.
Some people have reported difficulties with some variants, specifically
the 5880 variant by Creative Labs (open the box and read the
printing on the largest chip). The original core is from the
Ensoniq AudioPCI Family of soundcards. After Creative bought them
they released at least two variants: one identical to the originals
as SB-PCI64 and SB-PCI128, and one slightly different SB-PCI128 (5880).

The Neutrino ALSA5 driver (code is also on QUICS) contains a fix for the
5880, but the fix was never brought back to ALSA2. I believe that someone
in the QNX community was attempting to put in the fix, but I have not
heard what happened with that project.

I used to do all things James advised of, didn’t succeed either. So far
SB-Live is in my black list for the problem with recording. Please let me
know if somebody has it working.
