QNX based Barber Colman network 8000 system

Hi,
I just realized by surfing the net that QNX operating systems are still out
there.
I have a Barber Coleman 8000 graphics program called HOST.
Monday I will get more info on it and post it.
If any of you have seen or used this program please let me know.
I was told that a QNX based program cannot run on a PIII processor.
I am wanting to dual boot my laptop P.C with Qnx and windows 98.
Does anyone know if this is possible and how to do it?

Thanks
Dave

In the mid-80’s, I worked for a competitor to Barber Coleman building
automation systems. At that time they were QNX2 based, and it is a
real hassle getting QNX2 working on a speedy P3 processor. The chances
of it working on a modern P3 laptop are approximately 99.9 to .1

QNX2 is two generations behind. They released QNX4 around 1991-1992,
and QNX4’s replacement, Neutrino, in 1998 IIRC.

Neutrino 1.0 was late 96 or early 97 I believe; far from a runaway smash hit
at that time though

QSSL has two programs that help those of us stuck with vintage QNX 2
applications and newer computers. I don’t remember their exact names, but
they “patch” the timing loops in the OS so it will run on faster computers.
If necessary, I can dig up the information. Don’t know the upper limit, tho
(would be interested to learn from others). I think I was using a 120 MHz
machine at the time.

One of them was “speed_correct”.
It was used to force the OS speed value to 65535, otherwise it would
rollover and the OS would think it was a much slower machine.

We’ve used Qnx2 successfully on up to a Pentium 200Mhz, and I’ve dual booted
between Qnx2 and W95 on a Pentium 150Mhz using the System Commander package,
however I don’t use it at this time.
