QNX partitions on diskonchip

Hi,
I am trying to install copies of QNX4.25 on two partitions of a 72MB
diskonchip. When I install just one partition of QNX on the diskonchip,
my PC can boot from it. However, when I install multiple QNX on
multiple partitions and mark the first partition bootable, it fails to
boot, and gives me the following set of messages:
QNX Loader
Boot Partition 1
Missing Operating System
When I contacted the tech support of the diskonchip vendor (M-Systems
Inc.), they couldn’t understand why this should happen. It could be a
problem with their diskonchip driver for QNX. But they suggested that
it could be a problem with QNX itself, and that I try to make multiple
QNX partitions on a hard disk and see if the OS boots. Now, I am using
a development PC to program the diskonchip for a target PC104 system.
It’s the only development PC I have, and I don’t want to try
partitioning its hard disk in case it stops booting after that! I
wanted to know from someone who has tried multiple QNX partitions on a
hard disk, if it works. Has anyone tried multiple QNX partitions on a
diskonchip before? I would be grateful for any response to this
problem. Thanks in advance.

Install multiple QNX4 - Do you mean that you format multiple QNX4 Partitions, or that you make a
full QNX install on multiple partitions?
Only the QNX4 type 77 partition is bootable. Additional partitions are type 78 and 79, they are not
usually bootable. Ensure that fdisk has the type 77 partition set as the boot partition.
Boot your system and try typing either 4, 3, or 2 when “Boot Partition 1” is displayed so as to boot
from the alternate partitions. If this works then use “fdisk /dev/hd0.0” or “fdisk /dev/hd0” to
change the booting partition.

I seem to remember a problem with the earlier drivers and multiple
partitions, try getting the latest driver AND firmware for the disk on chip.
I hate saying that but …

DOOH! btw the driver and firmware are both from disk on chip, we ( Qnx software Systems Ltd.) didn’t write them

I format and install QNX4 on the partitions
Only the QNX4 type 77 partition is bootable. Additional partitions
are type 78 and 79, they are not
usually bootable. Ensure that fdisk has the type 77 partition set as
the boot partition.

When I mount and partition the diskonchip (/dev/tffs0) with two
partitions, its partitions are of types 77 and 78. For this, I use
fdisk as follows:

fdisk /dev/tffs0 add -f 1 QNX HALF

fdisk /dev/tffs0 boot QNX

fdisk /dev/tffs0 loader

fdisk /dev/tffs0 add -f 2 QNY HALF

This creates two QNX4 partitions, marks the first as bootable, and
writes the QNX partition loader on it. This can be verified
using “fdisk /dev/tffs0 show”, which shows the partition table.

Boot your system and try typing either 4, 3, or 2 when “Boot
Partition 1” is displayed so as to boot
from the alternate partitions. If this works then
use “fdisk /dev/hd0.0” or “fdisk /dev/hd0” to
change the booting partition.
