ON a NT file system:

So long as the NT filesystem is FAT, you’ll be OK.
But you’ll need to use a boot floppy, since there is no
config.sys on NT. The installer will give you some
messages.

With NT, on a seperate partition:

Just boot from the install CD and install to the empty
partition. Careful though, my experience with NT suggests
that its loader can be sensitive to changes in the
partition table. I’d be sure you have a way to access
your data if something bad happens.

I have installed QNX, DOS & NT bootable partitions on same drive.
Easier if you have new hard drive.

Here are the basic steps:

  • Install QNX in 1st partition slot (QNX numbering) in drive, leaving
    space for DOS & NT.
  • From QNX, use fdisk to mark space that will be for NT as being used,
    leaving space for DOS unallocated.
  • Install DOS in 4th partition (QNX numbering) slot, letting it use all
    unallocated space (drive letter c: )
  • From QNX, use fdisk to free up the space reserved earlier.
  • Install NT on 3rd partition slot (in my case it was ntfs E:, I had a
    small D: drive for data directories)

In your case you could omit installing the DOS partition, we needed it
for some legacy systems that need “True” DOS and not
the “windows/start/shutdown/reboot into DOS” method.

Here are my boot steps:

  • QNX boot loader choice comes up 1st
  • I choose 1 for QNX.
  • I choose 4 for DOS/NT
  • NT load starts and asks for DOS boot, NT VGA boot, or NT boot.

If NT didn’t diddle with the C: DOS drive boot you would be able to
boot directly from partition 3 right into NT.

Also, using Dosfsys you would be able to access the DOS C: drive but
not the NTFS drive. Maybe a good reason to have DOS partition if you
want to transfer files between the different OS’s.
