[announce.openwatcom] Open Watcom Update

FYI this is a post of an e-mail I received:

[See end of messag for subscription options]Dear Open Watcom Developer,

We would like to update you on the status of the Open Watcom
effort:

PROJECT STATUS
Sybase’s Watcom 11.0c source tree has been checked into a
private section of the Open Watcom Perforce system and the core
team is working (under NDA) to get it compiling in this new
environment. Since the 11.0c source code received from Sybase
did not compile initially, this task is taking longer that originally
anticipated. The team also had a number of problems sorting out
exactly which files in the build tree needed to be in version control.
Work is progressing on getting 11.0c to compile correctly and it
should be completed soon. The next phase is the 11.0c binary
release and following that will be the first Open Watcom source code
release (once all the proprietary third party source code is removed).

WEB SITE REDESIGN
The Open Watcom web has been redesigned in anticipation of the
forthcoming Open Watcom releases. Specifically, we have created
a “Community” section where all those using Open Watcom tools will
be able to congregate. Check it out at http://www.openwatcom.org

NEW MAILING LISTS AND NEWSGROUPS
Now you have the option of using either mailing lists or newsgroups
to stay current with the Open Watcom community. All post to the
newsgroups will automatically be sent to the corresponding mailing
list and vice versa. There are four public Open Watcom mailing
lists/newsgroups:

openwatcom.announce (official announcements only)
openwatcom.users.c_c++
openwatcom.users.fortran
openwatcom.contributors

Please see the Open Watcom Community page
(http://www.openwatcom.org/community.html) for information about
how to participate in the Open Watcom mailing lists and news
groups.

PURCHASING WATCOM 11.0x
One of the most common questions we are asked is where people
can purchase an existing Watcom 11.0 product. We have added a
section to the FAQ (http://www.openwatcom.org/faq.html) listing sites
that might still be selling Watcom products. We also recommend
searching Ebay, since there have been frequent offers for Watcom
11.0 products recently.

SCITECH IS HIRING!
SciTech is looking for talented system-level software developers to
work on its cutting edge cross-platform solutions. If this sounds like
something you are interested in, please see the SciTech career
page at: http://www.scitechsoft.com/employ.html

Thanks for your interest in the Open Watcom project!
