qnx viability

Am I correct in assuming that if I get the QNX disc, I will be able to
install it and boot directly from the install? And, get rid of
Windows?

Yes, you do not need windows installed to run QNX. The new RTP can be
installed as an image inside Windows98 last I looked, as an option to
reduce installation woes and allow someone to not have to go through disk
partitioning, but you can opt not to do that too. QNX has its own boot
loader too. A boot floppy may have to be made from a windows machine
first if you don’t get one with your CD, that can start the process on
machines that won’t boot from the CD. I had a Micron that was customized
so badly it only would boot from windows CD’s, but not the QNX CD.

Keep in mind that QNX will not replace your windows functionality. It
supports less hardware, doesn’t run windows apps, and has few replacements
for most windows apps.
